Whole Body Vibration

Chambersburg, PA, and the surrounding communities in the Tri-State region are lucky enough to have Dr. Bryan Staker and his team at Fifth Avenue Chiropractic at their disposal for their chiropractic wellness needs. We provide a complete range of chiropractic services, including whole body vibration (WBV) therapy in state-of-the-art surroundings while offering comfortable treatment rooms when you need it the most.

What Is Vibration Therapy?

Vibration therapy (VT) is a non-invasive treatment that may help improve your muscle strength, bone density, and neuromuscular function. There are two main types:

  • Localized vibration therapy
  • Whole body vibration therapy

We focus on whole body vibration, and during a WBV session, one of our skilled team members will ask patients to stand, sit or lay on a motor-driven vibrating platform. The vibrations you feel will cause your body to react by contracting and relaxing muscles or, depending on the frequency of the vibrations, produce cells called osteoblasts, responsible for supporting bone structure and growth within the body.

Vibrations can be vertical – up and down or produce horizontal displacement – a movement to the left and right. The vibration therapy will depend on the recommendation of your chiropractor, Dr. Staker, at Fifth Avenue Chiropractic, serving Chambersburg, PA, and the surrounding areas, after a thorough examination.

What Whole Body Vibration Therapy Does

Whole body vibration therapy is said to affect the body in some of the following ways:

  • Increase muscular strength
  • Decrease muscle soreness after exercise
  • Improve postural control and balance
  • Improve blood flow and circulation, including decreasing arterial stiffness
  • Offer pain relief

Benefits of Whole Body Vibration Therapy

Patients from all walks of life can benefit from whole body vibration therapy. Athletes can use it to help speed up recovery time and improve muscle strength, while older adults can use it to increase bone density and improve balance, reducing the risk of falling. There have also been findings that whole body vibration therapy may offer short-term quality of life benefits for patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Additionally, WBV has shown promise in rehabilitating children and young adults with specific physical disabilities when an extended treatment protocol is used. It has also been used successfully to help treat muscular atrophy due to bed rest.

Interestingly, space scientists have reviewed the benefits of whole body vibration therapy for astronauts whose musculoskeletal system and bone density are affected by space travel.
